7th Grade Language Arts and History

  • Students in 7th grade language arts are expected to master all reading, writing, language, and technology standards according to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).This will be accomplished with the use of Holt Literature and Language Arts curriculum, novel studies, writing workshops, and independent projects

The student will:

  • Develop an appreciation for learning, scholarly discussion, and investigation.
  • Demonstrate ability to write a Research Paper, Fictional Narrative, Argumentative Paragraph, Response to Literature, and various forms of Poetry.
  • Learn to use writing effectively for a variety of purposes with correct spelling, grammar and mechanics.
  • Expand his/her current reading comprehension level,writing , and vocabulary.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the writing process.
  • Recognize the importance of note taking skills in writing as a life skill and exhibit a positive, confident attitude toward it.
  • Acquire an understanding of him/herself as a scholar

8th Grade Language Arts & History

  • The 8th grade history curriculum begins at the Revolutionary War and ends just before World War I, with particular emphasis on the Constitution and the Civil War.The 8th grade GATE history text is TCI’s History Alive!
  • National History Day:All 8th grade GATE students will participate in National History Day.
